TEN TRAMP MEMBERSHIP QUALIFICATION YEAR: 1 April 2026 – 31 March 2027

The cost of all tramps is $25 unless otherwise noted. 

1 July                    Mid-Winter Lunch

8 July                    8.30am                 Kate Valley, Tirimoana Walkway 

2nd P/U: Woodend

Standard route: Car park to Ella Ponds, Coastal Viewpoint, Ella Bush, a ridge climb to Ella’s Peak, a grass track descent to a stream gully and lunch on the Pegasus Bay beach. Returning to the carpark via the western Wetlands track. A short steep road climb to grass track through a pine plantation; an undulating road walk to the D/O.

Alternative route: Car park to Ella Ponds, Coastal Viewpoint, Ella Bush, a grass track descent to a stream gully and lunch on the Pegasus Bay beach. 15 July                  8:30am                 Charteris Bay – Purau – Diamond Harbour

2nd P/U   Halswell Library

Standard Route: Walk around road and track to Purau for lunch, follow the coast track to Diamond Harbour and follow track to Charteris Bay.

Alternative Route: Walk around road and track to Purau for lunch, follow the coast track to Diamond Harbour.

22 July                  8.30 am                Roto Kohatu – The Groynes – Willowbank

Standards: Flat walking through Christchurch walkways and urban streets.

29 July                  8.30am                 PMH – Bowenvale

2nd P/U: PMH

Standard route: Start at the eastern corner of the PMH grounds, climb track past the WWII tunnel to Lady Polson Lane., follow Hackthorne Rd uphill, to the Cracroft Reserve for morning tea. From there take Victoria Park road into Victoria Park and pick up Latters track to the Summit Road at Thompsons Reserve and then either over Sugar Loaf or Thomsons Track to the Sign of the Kiwi and Coronation Hill for lunch. Continue to Bowenvale Ave via Mitchells Track/Crater Rim Walkway, where Mitchells Track meets the Summit Rd at a carpark. Cross the road to pick up the Bowenvale Valley Track and follow down the valley to Bowenvale Ave and the bus.

Alternative route: As per Standards but take Thompsons track to the Sign of the Kiwi instead of going over Sugarloaf.

 5 August             8.30am   Little River – Birdlings Flat

2nd P/U:  Halswell Library

Standard Route: A road walk with steady climb to the ridge, along Bossu Rd and down to Birdlings Flat.

Alternative Route: As above but starting at the top of Kinloch Road.

Stats: distance 17km/10.4km, elevation gain 617/ ???, time 4hrs 15min, 3hrs 20 min  

12 August            8.30am    Sumner – Godley Head – Evans Pass

2nd P/U: Meet at Clocktower, south end of Sumner Esplanade

Standard route:    From Scarborough clock tower follow the road to Flowers Track.  Up Flowers Track to Nicholson Park.  Continue on the road to the coastal track access way, next to 127 Taylors Mistake Road, and onto Taylors Mistake and Godley Head car park for lunch. After lunch, over stile, onto Breeze Bay walking track, past World War 11 buildings, to bus pickup at Evans Pass.

Alternative route: Start second at Evans Pass and go in reverse to the Standards. Can take a shortcut down the Anaconda Track from Breeze Col or go the whole way to Godly Head and around.

19 August            8.30am                 Coalgate Forest

2nd P/U: Yaldhurst

Standard route: A farm walk with short climbs and rolling hills with great views from the Alps to the Peninsula. Return on farm tracks and Whitecliffs Rd to Farr St.

Alternative route: As above.

Stats: distance 13km, elevation gain 434m, time 4hrs.

26 August            8.30am                 Coalpit Spur

2nd P/U:  Yaldhurst

Standard route: up Mistletoe track to the ridge, Helicopter Hill, then down skifield  road, go right and down to Coalpit Spur track, then to the car park on the side of SH73 near Flock Hill Lodge.

Alternative route:  As per standards without Helicopter Hill.

Stats: distance 12.6/10.7km, elevation gain 772/410m, time 4hrs 20mins/4hrs

2 September     8.30am                 Bellbird Loop

2nd P/U    PMH

Standard route: Start with the Orangomai track through Kennedys Reserve (approx 1hr). Morning Tea at the Bellbird. Cross the road, turn right on the Crater Rim Track for a short distance to the Cass Ridge Track, down to O’Farrells Track. Traverse around to Bush Road Track which zig zags up to the Crater Rim Track and return to the Bellbird carpark via Ella’s Track.

Alternative route: As above but shorten the Kennedys Reserve section by taking the Totara Trail, Quarry Trail or Fantail Trail to morning tea at the Bellbird. Cross the road, go through the carpark to the bottom of the grass area below the carpark, turn right to pick up Ellas Track. This joins Cass Ridge Track then as above but take either Ella’s Track or continue around Mt Ada on the Crater Rim Track, dependent on conditions.

9 September     8.30am  Bottle Lake HQ – Spencer Park – Waimakiriri River – Spencer Park 

2nd P/U: N/A

Starting at Bottle Lake HQ, this walk follows the “blue markers” through coastal dunes and pine plantation with a beach walk to pick up.

Stats: distance 18.6km, time 5hrs

16 September   8.30am  13 Mile Bush/Benmore Hut

2nd P/U Yaldhurst

Standard Route: Start at the DOC carpark beyond the Benmore Station homestead. Follow the 4WD track/riverbed and marked DOC track to the Annadale track DOC sign. Up the ridge on a 4WD track until a marked DOC track intersects along a ridge off.to the right. Follow this track through the bush down to a hut on a saddle in the bush. Walk back down the valley on the marked track past the Annadale track intersection back to the bus.

Alternative Route: As for Standards but travel up the Annadale track ridge as far as one of the two good viewpoints for morning tea. Then return to the Benmore Hut track and walk upstream for as long as terrain allows.

23 September    8.30am   Washpen Falls

2nd P/U:   Yaldhurst

Standard Route: Track starts at Washpen Chalet and climbs through an ancient Volcanic Canyon which is filled with native bush and wonderful birdlife.  Continue to the peak for lunch.  On the descent follow creeks and a waterfall creating the longest tributary of the Hororata river.

30 September   8.00am   Bealey Spur                                 Note: Early Start

Standard Route: The track starts from the car park off SH73, walk up Cloudesley

Road to the track start at the top. Continue from the Bealey Spur Hut to the top of the Spur and return.

Alternative Route: The track starts from the car park off SH73, walk up Cloudesley Road to the track start at the top. Walk to the Bealey Spur Hut for lunch and then return.
